Kane Williamson, has announced his retirement from Twenty20 International cricket

New Zealand cricket’s greatest player in the last ten years, Kane Williamson, has announced his retirement from Twenty20 International cricket. Kane represented New Zealand in 93 Twenty20 Internationals, scoring 2575 runs, with his best score being 95.

After McCullum’s retirement in 2015, Williamson took over the leadership of New Zealand. He led the team to the World Cup semi-finals in the first year… Then the World Twenty20 final in 2021, but after the group stage exit in the last event in 2024, Kane announced his resignation from the leadership.

Williamson was a good and very calculated player and is a true Kiwi legend, but it is true that with the current strike rate, Williamson did not fit into the Twenty20 format in any way and it is my observation that the board must have informed Williamson that he is not part of our World Cup plan, so he thought it better to retire and it is true that if Williamson had gone to India with the team with this strike rate, he would have definitely become a burden on the team… So Weldon Kane was a good player, a good captain and a noble person… He said goodbye after making a good Twenty20 career… Best of luck for ODI and Test.
